Bep was 18 years younger than Joop, but he fell totally in love with her. At first she didn't want to have anything to do with him, but gradually she started to love him too. Around that time she changed her name from Bep to Liz. In the spring of 1964 they got married. They got a daughter in February of 1965: Sandra. He was very proud of his daughter. After eight years they got divorced. Joop blamed this due to his busy work with Swiebertje and consequently not having enough time for his family. In the spring of 1972 a young blond beauty behind the bar of Het Kompas drew Joop's attention. She was Esther de Jong and 32 years younger than he was. They married in March of 1973.
